Flatbed Towing in Brooklyn

A flatbed carries the whole car with all four wheels off the road, so nothing in the drivetrain turns and nothing drags. For all-wheel drive, lowered, low-mileage, classic, or crash-damaged vehicles it is the only correct way to move the car — and in Brooklyn's tight streets and steep driveways, the loading angle matters as much as the truck.

When a flatbed is required, not optional

Some vehicles are damaged by conventional towing. If yours is on this list, ask for the flatbed when you call:

  • All-wheel drive and four-wheel drive vehicles, including most Subarus, Audi quattro, and modern crossovers
  • Lowered, wide-body, or air-suspension cars that will scrape on a wheel-lift ramp
  • Exotic, collector, and restored vehicles where paint and undertray matter
  • Cars with a locked transmission, seized wheel, broken axle, or missing wheel
  • Collision vehicles with crumpled bodywork or fluid leaks
  • Electric vehicles, which most manufacturers require to be flat-towed

How we load without touching the paint

The bed tilts, the winch pulls the car straight on, and it is secured with soft straps over the tires or with wheel baskets rather than hooks on suspension arms. On low cars we add ramp extensions so the front lip clears the break-over angle. Everything is photographed before and after loading so the car's condition is documented.

Working Brooklyn's tight spots

Flatbeds are long, so the approach is planned before the truck leaves the yard: brownstone blocks in Park Slope and Bed-Stuy where double-parking is the only option, Gowanus and Red Hook loading zones, low-clearance garages in Downtown Brooklyn and DUMBO, and narrow one-ways in Carroll Gardens. If the bed genuinely cannot fit, we winch the car out to the corner or send a wheel-lift instead and tell you that on the call rather than after the truck arrives.

Flatbed vs wheel-lift

A wheel-lift is faster, fits tighter spaces, and is fine for a front-wheel-drive car that rolls freely on a short trip. A flatbed is the safer choice for anything AWD, damaged, low, valuable, or headed a long distance. Dispatch picks based on the year, make, model, drivetrain, and whether the wheels turn — which is why we ask.

Longer-distance and multi-car moves

Flatbeds also handle transports out of the city — dealer trades, auction pickups, a project car moving to a shop upstate or in New Jersey. Small motorcycles, ATVs, and box-truck-sized equipment can go on the same bed with the right tie-downs. Give dispatch the destination and we quote the run as a flat price.

Related services

After a crash, flatbed transport is usually paired with accident and collision recovery. If the car has to be pulled out of a curb cut, mud, or a ditch before it can be loaded, start with winch-out recovery. Selling instead of repairing? Junk car removal includes the flatbed pickup.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is flatbed towing more expensive than a regular tow?

It can be slightly higher because the equipment and loading time cost more, but you get the total price before the truck rolls. For AWD and damaged vehicles it is cheaper than the drivetrain repair a wrong tow can cause.

Do I need a flatbed for an all-wheel-drive car?

Yes in almost every case. Towing an AWD vehicle with two wheels rotating can damage the center differential or transfer case. Manufacturers specify flat towing, and so do we.

Can a flatbed pick up a car in an underground garage?

Usually not — most Brooklyn garages have clearance under seven feet. We send a wheel-lift or a low-profile dolly setup to bring the car out to the street, then transfer it to the flatbed if the destination requires one.

Will my classic car's paint or bumper be damaged?

We use soft straps over the tires instead of chains on the body or suspension, add ramp extensions for low front ends, and document the vehicle with photos before and after loading.

Can you flatbed an electric vehicle?

Yes, and most EV manufacturers require it. Tell dispatch it is an EV and whether it can be shifted to neutral or is fully immobilized so the crew brings the right winching setup.

Can a car that will not roll be loaded?

Yes. With a locked transmission, seized wheel, or missing wheel we use skates or dollies under the affected corner and winch the car onto the bed.
